On behalf of our client, we are currently seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team and contribute to the success of our projects.
Primary Purpose (Role):
Engineering and discipline project design activities relating to concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility studies, EPCM and EPC projects.
Main functions include (but not limited to):
- Design Engineering
- Technical Support
- Package Management
- Site Support
- Commissioning
- Documentation and handover
Key Performance Areas (Responsibilities)
New Business Development
- Prospect for new leads and/or clients by networking and other means of generating interest from potential clients.
- Develop persuasive approaches that will encourage potential clients.
- Assist Country Manager in the development of ongoing pipeline of new business for the company.
- Identify, prioritise and develop new leads for the company.
- Successfully convert leads into opportunities for the company to bid on.
- Expand the company’s project footprint into the global market.
- Utilize negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new venture with company strategies and operations; examining risks and potentials; estimating partners’ needs and goals.
- Assist in closing new business deals by coordinating requirements, assisting/guiding the development and negotiating contracts.
- Protects value by keeping information confidential.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Client Relationship Building
- Research and build relationships with new clients.
- Identify the decision makers and influencers within the client organisation.
- Maintain and augment existing as well as new client relationships to ensure business opportunities.
- Networking with other industry professionals.
Engineering
- Carry out innovative detailed designs as required for specific disciplines following good engineering practices
- Design of conveyor and piping systems in area of responsibility (Checked by relevant BMH or piping technical lead)
- Ensure that the discipline designs are carried out in accordance with client standards and specifications, industry standards and the relevant legislation (quality of design)
- Provide design interface between disciplines
- Ensure (certified) design information received from vendors, contractors and consultants is accurate and interfaces with other designs
- Ensure the effective (peer) review and approval of discipline design
- Ensure continuous improvement, lessons learnt, value engineering, fit for purpose and latest technologies are implemented
- Carry the responsibility for the engineering discipline sign off
- Interface with internal and external design and drafting disciplines
- Provide discipline inputs for studies and proposals
- Provide engineering support to the site team
- Perform commissioning discipline activities
- Manage the mark-up and back draughting of redline drawings
Operational Management
- Provide input into all SHE matters, actively participate and promote a total safety culture.
- Ensure that relevant project procedures are complied with
- Ensure that fabrication, manufacturing and construction drawings are issued according to project programme
- Manage the programme (time), cost, quality, risk and scope of assigned procurement packages.
- Ensure assigned packages are installed / constructed in accordance with the project & vendor specifications
- Manage, inspect and release the relevant items of procurement, fabrication and construction within area of discipline and responsibility
- Participate in the Total Safety Culture and site safety requirements
- Assist with the commissioning of the assigned packages in accordance with the project & vendor specifications
- Ensure that reports are structured, accurate, complete and well presented
- Display proactive communication with project team with respect to discipline interface and problem solving
Financial
- Manage personal and design/draughting budget man-hours
- Manage budget as allocated per discipline/procurement package
- Ensure designs produced are in accordance with capital budget and quantities
- Ensure suitable contract management is applied to managed procurement packages
Client Relations
- Ensures that all interactions with Clients are conducted in professional and respectful manner
- Ensures that Clients are kept informed and up to date on status of project technical aspects
- Ensures that our company remains the Clients engineering service provider of choice
- Liaises and co-ordinates with the client’s discipline engineers to ensure adherence to project and client requirements and specifications

Qualifications
- Diploma/bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a relevant field.
Registrations
- Engineers Registration Board (ERB) – Peng
Experience
- Experience within a design and construction company in the Mining and/or EPCM Industries.
- Experience and knowledge job related software and standards
- General experience and understanding of problem solving, risk assessment, developing advanced level analysis
- Minimum 6 years
Knowledge Areas
- Knowledge of draughting, including elements of CAD packages
- General appreciation and Knowledge of Industry Safety and Quality procedures.
- Knowledge in engineering design.
Ownership or experience running an engineering company will be considered an added advantage.
